| Adolescent DBT Group | | River City will be providing a total of 18 sessions for one and one half hours (90 minutes) per session with the objective of increasing interpersonal effectiveness, decreasing crisis inpatient admissions, and teaching skills for managing distress and impulsiveness. River City’s DBT group will teach four critically important skills that can both reduce the size of emotional waves and help participants balance when those emotions become overwhelming.
The group size will consist of 3 to 10 participants. Given that, at times it may be necessary to exceed this number, there shall be no more than 12 participants. Each session will consist of two group facilitators. All group facilitators are trained and skilled to provide these services. The participants will be individuals with a mental health diagnosis and history of difficulty managing emotions, anger, or distress.
Worksheets and activities designed for DBT Therapy for adolescents, such as Don’t Let Your Emotions Run Your Life For Teens by Sheri Van Dijk, MSW, will be utilized throughout the sessions. The Facilitators will administer workbooks and homework with the goal of skill acquisition (teaching), skill strengthening (practice), and skill generalization (homework). Targets for Skills training includes decreasing behaviors likely to disrupt therapy, increasing skill acquisition and strength, and decreasing self destructive behaviors. ***We accept Medicaid, all major insurances, and private pay. We also offer a sliding scale fee. | |
