| Girls Northstar Group | | River City will be providing a total of 13-15 sessions for one and one half hours (90 minutes) per session with the objective of promoting self-esteem and self-confidence in young adolescent girls by celebrating and affirming their strengths as well as providing education and awareness about the issues that they face as young women in our society today. The overall goal for the North Star Girls Group is to provide a safe and supportive environment in which group members gain support from both their peers and group facilitators in promoting feelings of empowerment and self-confidence, as well as learn healthy ways to cope with the stresses and pressures of entering adolescence. Group sessions will address many issues specifically related to girls in early adolescence. Sessions are designed to build on each other while creating a sense of safety and comfort in the group. The group size will consist of 8-10 participants, ideally; although, at times it may be necessary to exceed this number, there shall be no more than 12 participants. Each session will consist of two group facilitators. All group facilitators are trained and skilled to provide these services. The participants will be individuals that are at-risk adolescent girls between the ages of 12-18 who have identified by their community as demonstrating some maladaptive behaviors that have caused disruption in their social functioning. The Facilitator will administer individual workbooks/journals composed of curriculum handouts from The North Star Girls Group Curriculum by Heidi Arizala Snowman, MSW, LICSW and homework with the goal of skill acquisition (teaching), skill strengthening (practice), and skill generalization (homework). Targets for skills training will include self-awareness, self-esteem, feelings identification and effective expression of wants and needs, emotional regulation, co-dependency and antisocial behavior, tolerance and relationship building. ***We accept Medicaid, all major insurances, and private pay.
