Join us for our first-ever nonprofit consultant forum. Our expert panel of nonprofit consultants will discuss ways to assess your organization's needs and determine whether or not professional consulting services are right for you. You'll learn how to find a good consultant match as well as ways to build and maximize your relationship with the consultant you hire. Also, we'll address foundations that fund professional consulting services, specifically The Cameron Foundation's Technical Assistance Grant Program. Najmah Thomas, the foundation's lead program officer and coordinator of technical assistance, will present and be available to answer questions concerning capacity building funding opportunities.
Free event - registration required. Time for professional networking will be included. Come meet local consultants and have your questions answered by experts in the field of nonprofit management, professional fundraising, board governance and more.

A basic overview of online tools to leverage the power of Web 2.0 including social media, Google docs, and social media management tools. Come with all your questions on why organizations tweet and why they don't. Learn how to use measurement tools to see who is visiting your website and what they are looking at while visiting. Participants will learn to effectively integrate Web 2.0 in their organization. Social media personality and how to define your organization online as well as the human resources component of policies and guides will also be discussed. Participants with a basic grasp of social media tools including Twitter, blogs, Facebook and other Web 2.0 tools will benefit the most from this workshop.

The Cameron Foundation's Technical Assistance Grant Program supports nonprofit organizational development and effectiveness through the provision of professional consulting services. Southside nonprofits may request Technical Assistance funds on a rolling basis with a maximum possible award of $15,000; applicants may receive more than one Technical Assistance grant per year. Participants will be introduced to helpful new guidelinse and grant tools.

This workshop will introduce participants to the basic elements of a business plan and the important role they plan in your organization. Business plans are a living document that can grow and change with your organization serving as a compass to keep everyone on track. Learn how it can be a useful tool for board and volunteer recruitment as well as a fund development. Participants will work hands on with a sample business plan and leave with next steps to implement in their own organizations.

There is both a science and an art to effective organizing and this workshop will focus on the systems and processes that make up community organizing. The mechanics of developing an effective grassroots organizing program will be covered in the session. Key topics include constituency analysis, planning and structuring an organizating drive, and evaluation tactics. Participants will learn useful skills for planning, tracking and evaluating the recruitment of new members, maintaining member involvement and develoment leaders. Real-world tools Virginia Organizing Project has developed will be introduced that accurately measure these processes and allow users to constantly update and tailor organizing strategies.
