Support Groups & Program Defined

Defined as an informal resource that attempts to provide healing components to a variety of problems and challenges. This support is outside of family, friends, or professionals and often provides greater understanding, more similarity (from individuals experiencing similar life events), and opportunity for empathy and altruism, and a sense of identity for participants.



Support Groups & Program Definitions

Alzheimer's disease - provides support and information for those with Alzheimer's (memory loss) disease and/or their families.

Attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder - provides support and information for children with attention deficit (with or without hyperactivity) disorder and/or their families.

Bereavement/grief support - provides support and information for those dealing grief and loss.

Cancer - provides support and information for those dealing with cancer.

Cardiovascular disease - provides support and information for those dealing with heart and vascular-related disease.

Children/parents - provides support and information for those dealing with issues of child rearing and parenting.

Diabetes - provides support and information for those dealing with diabetes.

Domestic violence - provides support and information for those dealing with violence committed by family members or those with an emotional connection with the victim.

Ex-offenders - provides support and information for those released from incarceration.

Fibromyalgia - provides support and information for those dealing with fibromyalgia.

Gambling - provides support and information for those dealing with gambling addiction.

GBLT support - provides support and information to gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgendered persons, particularly those dealing with sexual identity issues.

Group meetings - provides a community-based setting for groups of individuals with a similar condition and/or issue to meet.

Men only - provides support and information to men only or in a male single-sex setting.

Mental health - provides support and information for those dealing with mental illness.

Multiple sclerosis - provides support and information for those dealing with multiple sclerosis.

Older adults - provides support to older adults and/or information on aging issues.

On-site program - Identified programs are provided at the organization's physical location.

Parkinson's disease - provides support and information for those dealing with Parkinson's disease.

Physical disabilities - provides support and information for those dealing with physical disabilities.

Respiratory issues - provides support and information for those dealing with respiratory disease (asthma, COPD, etc).

Sexual addiction - provides support and information for those dealing with sexual addiction.

Smoking cessation - provides support and information for those trying to stop smoking.

Substance abuse - provides support and information for those dealing with substance abuse (alcohol and/or drugs).

Teens/adolescents - provides support and information for adolescents and teenagers.

Women only - provides support and information to women only or in a female single-sex setting.
