Hospitals Defined

Defined as a health facility licensed by the state where ill or injured people are given medical, surgical, rehabilitative or psychiatric care for a relatively short-term stay.



Hospitals Definitions

Children services - provides acute health care services to children from birth to age 18.

Emergency care services - provides emergency/urgent health care services.

Inpatient services - provides acute health care services in a hospital for more than 24 hours.

Intensive care services - provides intensive care services in a hospital setting (examples include cardiac intensive care, pediatric intensive care, neonatal intensive care).

Long-term acute care - facilities that provide patients with medical problems that require intense, special acute medical services for a long time (usually more than 28 days).

Obstetrical services - provides services related to pregnancy and childbirth.

Outpatient services - provides medical services that can be delivered without overnight hospitalization.

Psychiatric services - provides treatment for mental health/substance abuse issues.

Radiation therapy - provides treatment of disease (especially cancer) by exposure to a radioactive substance.

Rehabilitative services - provides services to the disabled with the goal of restoring them to their former capabilities and/or greater independence.

Surgical services - has licensed operating rooms to provide surgical services.
