Are you looking for funding for your organization or programs? An introductory session on prospecting for new funding sources, this workshop will provide participants with an overview of two major funding databases: Grants Connection (Directory of Virginia Foundations) and the Foundation Directory Online (generally considered the gold standard of funding databases with up to 100,000 grants). Leave with the ability to navigate both sites and generate a list of prospective funders specific to your program or organizational needs.

Want to save money and time by streamlining your accounting tasks? This workshop is geared for folks with little to no accounting experience or new to QuickBooks and would need to setup an accounting system from scratch. Providing a step-by-step instruction, this workshop will allow participants to gain familiarity with the software. A review of the basic rules for accounting will be covered which are required to effectively work with the software. Nonprofit staff that performs bookkeeping work as well as some of the management and board members would benefit from attending. Participants will come away being able to set-up their bookkeeping system with a good understanding of basic accounting procedures.

Cultivation is often the most underrated step in building donor relationships. The presentation will address key components in cultivating donors - the donor's motivation for giving, connecting their passion to your programs, and finally, the best way to ask the donor for a gift. If cultivation is done properly, "the ask" will be much easier. This presentation will include practical tips on how to develop the best possible relationships with donors.
Fundraising consultant, Keith Curtis, will offer two one-on-one fundraising mentoring sessions following the workshop presentation. In these 30-minute sessions, you will met with an experienced fundraiser to discuss a specific question or challenge relative to your organization. Mentoring sessions will be assigned on a first-come basis; registration in this class does not automatically enroll you in a mentoring session. Available through the Partnership for Nonprofit Excellence, BoardLink facilitates connections of nonprofit organizations to trained and talented individuals interested in nonprofit board membership. Learn how to create a persuasive online profile that accurately reflects your organization's mission, programs and needs. This interactively lab session provides participants with an overview of basic roles and responsibilities of nonprofit boards and strategies for successful recruitment.

Is your nonprofit organization facing obstacles in specific areas preventing it from reaching its goals? Or, have you identified certain supports that are critical to your organization's development, but simply lack the resources needed to implement them? The Cameron Foundation's Technical Assistance Grant Program might be exactly what you need. The program aims to assist Southside region nonprofits in expanding their mission fulfillment capabilities by regularly awarding grants up to $15,000 for specialized assistance in areas such as board development and governance, strategic planning, fund development and marketing strategies, human resources management and more. The Foundation's Director of Capacity Building, Athan Lindsay, along with Southside Community Partners personnel will provide essential information on how to be successful in applying for Technical Assistance. Meet and gain insight from representatives who have experienced the benefits of this grant program.

The ability to creatively solve problems allows people to continuously improve their work processes and eliminate stumbling blocks to their performance and satisfaction at work. The tools covered in this workshop can help both teams and individuals to overcome barriers to creativity, visualize a process, pinpoint problems, find their causes, and determine the necessary solutions. A step-by-step problem solving process will be covered, from defining the problem to creatively identifying necessary solutions. These techniques typically fit well into organizations' existing problem solving philosophies or may help individuals define their own approach.

Participants will begin with timesaving tips used to prepare for writing a successful grant including analyzing Requests for Proposals, research techniques, developing and adhering to effective timelines, and gathering and organizing information resources. By the end of this workshop, you will have some of the basic tools to chart the course for success, such as developing an impactful case statement.

Boards have significant legal and ethical responsibilities to their constituents, staff, and communities. This workshop is for new board members or those thinking of serving who would appreciate an introduction to the fundamentals of effective governance including basic roles, responsibilities, legal obligations and structure. Participation will leave with an understanding of the characteristics of a successful board and basic expectations of service.
