History

In 2006, recognizing the success of ConnectRichmond and ConnectRappahannock in strengthening their communities, The Cameron Foundation asked ConnectNetwork to replicate the program in the Southside region.

ConnectSouthside's Email Group launched in the spring of 2007 with the official launch of the Web site that Fall. It has since become the region's indispensable one-stop source of local data and reports, nonprofit management resources, and more, that citizens, businesses, government and nonprofits rely upon daily.

In 2008, ConectSouthside merged with the Southside Va. Nonprofit Resource Center and Focus INC to become Southside Community Partners a program of the Appomattox Regional Library System. ConnectSouthside now serves as the portal for Southside Community Partners and is an affiliated project of ConnectNetwork. The success of Southside Community Partners is made possible thanks to our Advisory Council, Steering Committee and other committed partners.

Community Benefits

Both smple and systemic. Simple email announcements may include news of upcoming events, giveaways, advocacy alerts, job postings and volunteer opportunities. Broader benefits are achieved by providing the Southside community a platform to:

  • Strengthen organizational capacity of nonprofit organizations;
  • Funnel citizens to opportunities for civic engagement;
  • Foster connections within the nonprofit sector as well as business and government; and
  • Create awareness of local concerns and generate collective action to improve the lives of all citizens.
